In the retro-styled video game world of Niceland, Wreck-It Ralph is the 9-foot-tall, 643-pound villainous protagonist of Fix-It Felix Jr. This beloved arcade game tells the story of Felix, a cheerful and nimble hero who repairs the damage caused by Ralph's destructive tendencies. As the "bad guy" of the game, Ralph spends his days smashing buildings, only to be followed by Felix, who fixes everything with his magical hammer. Ralph is tired of being the bad guy and wants to prove that he can be a hero too. He longs for recognition and respect from the citizens of Niceland, particularly Vanellope von Schweetz, a sugary sweet-loving glitch who lives in the game's candy-coated world, Sugar Rush. Ralph decides to leave his own game and venture into other arcade games to earn the respect he so desperately craves. As Ralph explores these new worlds, he befriends Felix, who is initially hesitant about his friend's departure from their own game. The two embark on a series of adventures, each set in a different arcade game. They crash-land into Hero's Duty, a first-person shooter where they encounter the tough-as-nails Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun and her team of soldiers fighting to contain an alien invasion. In Sugar Rush, Ralph and Felix meet Vanellope von Schweetz, who is searching for a way to earn a spot in the game's prestigious Racing Tournament. The trio becomes fast friends, and Ralph sees this as an opportunity to prove himself as a hero. However, things take a turn when Ralph realizes that his actions are causing chaos across multiple games, threatening the very existence of Niceland. As Ralph navigates these new worlds, he confronts his own insecurities and learns valuable lessons about friendship, teamwork, and being true to oneself. With Felix's help, Ralph must find a way to repair the damage caused by his misadventures and restore balance to the arcade.
